What Is the Webster Technique?

If you've heard your doula, midwife, or another mom mention "the Webster Technique" and wondered what it actually means, this one’s for you! 🤰

A gentle, specific method built for pregnancy

Only chiropractors certified through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) are trained to perform the Webster technique with about 180 hours of training followed by a proficiency exam. Dr. Paulson is Webster Certified, so this is a technique he's trained specifically to bring into your care. The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment focused on optimizing pelvic balance during pregnancy, developed specifically for this purpose rather than adapted from general chiropractic care. It's not a manipulation aimed at your baby directly, it's focused entirely on your pelvis and the tension patterns around it.

Why pelvic balance matters so much right now

During pregnancy, a hormone called relaxin loosens the ligaments around your pelvis to prepare your body for birth. That's normal and necessary, but it can also let the pelvis shift unevenly, creating tension that affects comfort, movement, and how much room your baby has to settle into position. Supporting pelvic balance is really about working with that natural process instead of against it.

What it's used for

Many moms use it as part of general prenatal comfort throughout pregnancy, not only when something feels off. It's also commonly part of care while preparing for a VBAC, or while hoping to give a breech baby more room to turn naturally, though no technique can promise a specific outcome in either case.

What a visit actually looks like

Care starts with an INSiGHT nervous system scan, so your provider is working from real information about how your body is adapting, not a guess. From there, the adjustment itself is gentle and specific, built around wherever you are in your pregnancy, and it's considered safe throughout every trimester.

What moms tell us

We won't promise a specific outcome, every pregnancy is different. What we hear most often from moms in our office is that they feel more comfortable, sleep better, and walk into birth feeling calm and prepared.
